Aqueous synthesis of finely divided pyrite particles
چکیده
Abstract
Pyrite (FeS2) was synthesized by aqueous precipitation from the reaction between FeCl3 and NaHS at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. The solid product was purified by means of solvent extraction for elemental sulfur removal. The synthetic pyrite particles were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, surface area determination (BET), zeta potential measurements, and chemical analysis. The purified solid analyzed 99.46% FeS2 with an average particle size of 1.5 gm and a standard deviation of 0.3, a specific surface area of 4.1 m 2 g-1, and the isoelectric point (iep) at pH 2.3
